Roots back to 1792
We’re still writing our story.
Introducing Oliver Farms, a historic multi-generational farm with family roots dating back to Loyalist Frederick Oliver’s 1792 land grant on Napanee River. The original farmhouse was built in the 1830’s.
Over recent years, the farmhouse has undergone extensive renovations, transforming it into a modern retreat. Completed from 2021 to 2023, these renovations include the addition of four queen-sized bedrooms, a chef's kitchen with a butler pantry, and an expansive great room. The great room boasts exposed barn timbers and a striking floor-to-ceiling field stone fireplace. Notably, the 1800s vintage beams were sourced from local barns, and the fireplace and patio limestone originated from a nearby quarry in Kingston.
In 1938, John Oliver, a prominent figure in Canadian agriculture, was born and raised on the farm.
At 87, John Oliver continues to be a proud Canadian and played a pivotal role in showcasing Canadian products like canola and flaxseed on the world stage. He was inducted into the Canadian Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2013.
John’s son Mark Oliver spearheaded the three year renovation of Oliver Farms from 2021 to 2023. This transformation turned the property into a picturesque venue for the family to share for culinary events, corporate retreats, and community gatherings. Mark, alongside his siblings Paul and Karen, is dedicated to honoring their family’s agricultural legacy, paying homage to their father’s contributions to the industry and to maintaining an active working farm.
Situated on a sprawling landscape, the farm encompasses over 90 acres, with 50 acres dedicated to annual planting of rotational crops.
The barn on the property dates back to the 1830s, with a later addition in the 1890s. A fascinating discovery on the grounds was the original settler homestead foundation from the early 1800s, found in the back field. This historical site has been repurposed into a live fire cooking pit, ideal for hosting large groups and events.
Amidst the expansive grounds, a 150-year-old apple tree and a century-old pear tree continue to bear fruit, adding a touch of natural heritage to the property. These living reminders of the past contribute to the unique character of this historic farmstead.
